The Usual

Privacy, plainly

This page explains what information The Usual handles when you make a household meal plan. The service does not require an account or password.

Information you provide

The intake asks for an email address, food allergies, food preferences, cooking methods, weekly grocery budget, meal-planning goals, maximum cooking time, kitchen equipment, household size, a five-digit ZIP code, and whether we may email your meal plan. Your open-ended goals could include health-related details if you choose to put them there. Please share only what you are comfortable using for meal planning.

We use allergies, food preferences, cooking methods, grocery budget, goals, cooking time, equipment, and household size to shape meal suggestions and run recipe checks. Your email is used to send your private household link and, only if you opt in, your approved plan and grocery list, and to send a short confirmation when an email feedback reply is received and matched. Email, ZIP code, and email permission are saved with the household profile; email and ZIP code are not inputs to meal generation. The ZIP code is not currently used to choose meals.

You can share meal feedback in your own words by replying to a meal-plan email or by sending a note to the-usual@polsia.app. Active subscribers can also use chat on their private household page. These are feedback options, not additional survey questions. Feedback is matched to a household using the sender email saved with that profile.

Where information is kept

After you submit the intake, the household profile is stored in the app’s PostgreSQL database. Saved first-week plans and their recipe-check results are stored there too. The app also saves dinner ratings, email and chat meal-feedback messages, learned meal preferences derived from those messages, grocery-list checkmarks, and the private-link records needed to open or return to a household page.

The app keeps an email message ID as a processing marker so the same inbox message is not imported or answered twice. This marker contains no message text and is not linked to a household profile.

While you are filling out the intake, a draft is kept in this browser tab’s session storage so you can continue if you navigate within the tab. The draft excludes your email address. It is removed after a successful submission; an unfinished draft normally goes away when the tab’s session ends.

AI, email, and site measurement

Polsia AI services process intake chat messages and relevant household details to generate meal candidates and perform recipe checks. Email and ZIP code are not sent as meal-generation inputs. Your saved meal feedback is included in later meal-generation inputs as household preferences so future plans can take it into account. Polsia email services process your address to send the private link and, when you opted in and the plan passes its checks, the plan or grocery list. They also process an incoming meal feedback reply and send a short plain-language confirmation after it is matched.

Some deployments may enable Polsia page-view measurement. When enabled, the browser stores a random visitor ID in local storage and sends a page-view beacon with that ID and the deployment identifier to Polsia. This measurement is optional and is separate from the meal-plan inputs.

The Usual does not sell your personal information.

Delete a household

Open the household’s valid private link, choose Delete my household, and confirm. This removes the household profile, saved plans and recipe-check records, dinner ratings, email and chat meal-feedback messages, learned meal preferences, grocery-list state, and private-link records from the app database. A link for another household, an invalid link, or an expired return link cannot delete the household. Deletion cannot recall email copies that were already delivered or control records held by service providers.

Meal feedback by email

Send meal feedback to the-usual@polsia.app. Replies are associated only when the sender address matches one household profile.
